A late comeback effort propels the Sharks to a four-game win streak in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Minnesota Wild.
The first period was fairly uneventful, but early in the second period, the Wild scored the first goal via Matt Boldy on the power play. Late in the third period, the Sharks tied the game at one on a power play goal by Will Smith for his seventh goal of the season, assisted by Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli. This would ultimately force OT, where the Sharks would complete their comeback when Macklin Celebrini fed Collin Graf for his second goal of the season and first OT GWG of his NHL career to extend the Sharks’ win streak to four games and six wins in their past seven games. Sam Dickinson factored in on the OT winner as well with his first NHL assist.
Yaroslav Askarov was fantastic once more in his second consecutive start and came up huge when it mattered most, recording 28 saves on 29 shots against. In addition, William Eklund and Nick Leddy were activated from injured reserve, Zack Ostapchuk and Ethan Cardwell were re-assigned to the Barracuda, and Vincent Iorio was loaned to the Barracuda on a conditioning assignment. Timothy Liljegren was a healthy scratch tonight as well.
The Sharks got dominated by the Wild for most of this game, but they remained resilient, came back late in this contest, and found a way to win, which was absolutely impressive. This OT winner over the Wild also puts the Sharks in a playoff spot, specifically third place in the Pacific. Next up the Sharks travel to Calgary to face the Flames for the first time this season on Thursday at 6 pm PT.
