Sharks 2025-26 Game 18 Recap: Flames 2, Sharks 0 (11/13/25)

The Sharks were unable to solve Dustin Wolf, as they get shut out 2-0 by the Calgary Flames to snap their four-game win streak.

Things did not quite go as planned to begin this game, as Jeff Skinner was hit into the boards early in the first period and had to be helped off the ice and into the dressing room with an apparent right leg injury. Based on the severity of that injury, that certainly ended Skinner's night. The Flames struck first early in the second period on a breakaway goal by Blake Coleman. The only other goal scored in this mostly one-sided contest was an empty-netter by Samuel Honzek with 4.2 seconds left to extend the Flames' lead to two.

Yaroslav Askarov singlehandedly kept the Sharks in this game despite not getting any assistance from the skaters in front of him, compiling 34 saves on 35 shots against. In addition, Alex Nedeljkovic is away from the team for the time being due to a personal matter, and Jakub Skarek was recalled from the Barracuda to fill the backup goalie spot while Ned is away from the team.

Besides Askarov's heroic efforts tonight, the Sharks committed plenty of sloppy turnovers and had nothing to show for. I also did not like that William Eklund was high-sticked and bleeding early in the third period, and the refs totally missed it. Since the Flames currently occupy last place in the entire NHL and the Sharks were rolling prior to tonight, I initially thought this would be a fairly easy win for the Sharks. However, it turned out to be the complete opposite. Fortunately, unlike the past two seasons, I think this Sharks team can regain its mojo sooner than later. Team Teal concludes its current road trip on Saturday in Seattle against the Kraken at 7 pm PT, which will be the second time these two teams face each other at Climate Pledge Arena in just over a week.
