Sharks 2021-22 Game 47 Recap: Oilers 3, Sharks 0 (2/14/22)

The Sharks were unable to solve Stuart Skinner as they get shut out by the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 in their first game since the all-star break.

I understand that San Jose may be a bit rusty since they haven’t played a game in over a week, but this is unacceptable. They should’ve had more firepower in them due to Evander Kane’s return to the Tank, but the offense fell flat the entire game.

The Oilers scored two goals in the first period via Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse, while their last goal came in the third period from none other than Connor McDavid.

James Reimer had a solid performance in net despite getting pulled briefly at the end of the first period due to a broken skate. Reimer made a total of 36 saves, while Zach Sawchenko made a few saves in his brief stint in this game.

To make matters worse, Rudolfs Balcers blocked a shot in the second period and was in a ton of pain and discomfort. As a result, he had to head to the dressing room and didn’t return.

On the other hand, Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner recorded his first career shutout, and the Oilers posted their first-ever shutout at SAP Center. Skinner only needed 20 saves to complete the shutout.

The Sharks’ best opportunity on offense all night was a 1-on-1 rush by Noah Gregor in the third period, but Gregor ended up missing the net on that attempt.

Overall, this was a forgettable game for the Sharks during a critical stretch of the season. They return to the ice for their next game Thursday when they host the Vancouver Canucks at 7:30 pm PT.
