2022 NHL All-Star Weekend Recap (From the Sharks' Perspective)

The 2022 NHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition has come and gone, and although they have no implication on the regular season and playoffs, they are amazing spectacles and worth following. I don't plan to cover everything that took place during NHL All-Star Weekend in Vegas since it is nothing more than a revenue grab for the league, just the most important aspects affecting the Sharks. Let's begin:

As you already know, Timo Meier was the Sharks' lone representative participating in the NHL All-Star festivities this year. He took part in the Hardest Shot Challenge during the Skills Competition Friday night, recording attempts of 91.3 and 100.1 mph. Timo placed fourth in the Hardest Shot Challenge, while defenseman Victor Hedman of the Lightning went on to win that challenge. He could've participated in other challenges during the skills competition that are better geared toward his strengths and style of game, but this was the challenge he was placed in by the league, and that's the way it goes.

Former San Jose Shark and current Dallas Star Joe Pavelski was named to the 2022 NHL All-Star roster this year and took part in the 21 in '22 Challenge, which involves shooting pucks at large playing card-shaped targets. Pavelski ended up winning the 21 in '22 Challenge. One of my favorite moments of All-Star Weekend in Vegas was the reunion of Timo Meier and Joe Pavelski, which first took place during the first media session of the festivities.

As for the main event on Saturday, Timo Meier recorded one goal and one assist in the Pacific Division's 6-4 loss to the Metropolitan Division in the Semifinal. Timo's goal was the first one scored for the Pacific. Joe Pavelski recorded a total of two goals and two assists for the Central Division in the All-Star Game, which were evenly divided to a goal and assist each in the Central's 8-5 win over the Atlantic Division in the Semifinal and the Central's 5-3 loss to the Metro in the Final. The Metropolitan Division took home $1 million for winning the 2022 NHL All-Star Game, and forward Claude Giroux of the Flyers was named All-Star Game MVP.

The NHL All-Star festivities were exciting to see and follow, but more so for those in attendance than the TV audience. With everything it has to offer, there isn't a better city than Las Vegas to host the NHL All-Star Weekend. I'm happy that Timo and Pavs put on the performances that they did and were a part of the All-Star festivities this weekend.
