Sharks 2021-22 Game 23 Recap: Sharks 2, Islanders 1 (OT) (12/2/21)

The Sharks extend their win streak to three games and remain undefeated on their current road trip as they take down the New York Islanders 2-1 in overtime. This also marks the Islanders' ninth-straight loss.

About a minute into the start of this game, Mat Barzal scores the first goal of the game and the only goal for the Islanders in this game. The Sharks tie it up about eight minutes later via Nick Bonino's third goal of the season from Jonathan Dahlen and Timo Meier.

Jonah Gadjovich had left the game early and didn't return after blocking a shot by Noah Dobson near the Sharks' blue line. Timo Meier was involved in a knee-on-knee collision at center ice in the first period and headed into the dressing room for a moment, but is okay and later returned to the game. The second period saw Jean-Gabriel Pageau crash into Adin Hill, which led to a Sharks power play. Luckily Adin Hill was unshaken by Pageau colliding into him.

The game remained tied at one until seconds into overtime when Timo Meier makes a pass to Erik Karlsson from behind the net. Karlsson was in the right place at the right time as he found a big hole on Ilya Sorokin and buried it in the net for the game-winner. In addition, Logan Couture got the secondary assist on the OT GWG for the Sharks. This game couldn't have ended any better.

Adin Hill was excellent in net as he recorded 24 saves on 25 shots in the victory tonight.

As for the standings, Team Teal is currently 13-9-1 with 27 points, good for the top Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. This is a great win, and I love what I am seeing from the Sharks lately. San Jose is looking to make it four straight wins tomorrow night when they face the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden on the second leg of a back-to-back at 4 pm PT.
