Sharks 2021-22 Game 22 Recap: Sharks 5, Devils 2 (11/30/21)

The Sharks get their second win in a row and second win on their current road trip as they take down the New Jersey Devils 5-2.

Team Teal was basically in control of this game from the get-go. The Sharks scored four unanswered goals through the second period to begin this game, with each one from Noah Gregor, Jake Middleton, Timo Meier, and Erik Karlsson in this specific order. The Devils mounted a comeback effort in the third period with goals from Tomas Tatar and Jesper Bratt, but that was all they were able to generate. Timo Meier sealed the deal with an empty-net goal late in the third for his second-consecutive two-goal game.

As for other Sharks players to show up on the scoresheet, Alexander Barabanov recorded two assists, Noah Gregor recorded an assist in addition to the first goal of the game, and Radim Simek, Marc-Eduoard Vlasic, Logan Couture, and Rudolfs Balcers each recorded an assist.

James Reimer had another great start in net, stopping 32 of 34 shots against. Jonathan Dahlen returned to the lineup last night after being sidelined due to a shoulder injury. Another noteworthy storyline from this game was the return of Jack Hughes for the Devils, who also signed an 8-year extension.

San Jose is beginning to find their groove again and looking more like a playoff team. The Sharks' next stop in their current road trip is the new UBS Arena where they will face the struggling New York Islanders, who had their past two games postponed due to COVID, on Thursday at 4 pm PT.

A few side notes:

  • As many folks around the Sharks expected, Evander Kane has cleared waivers and reported to the Barracuda in the AHL yesterday morning.
  • Yesterday marked one year since I began CPF Hockey, and we are still going strong. It's only up from here!
