The Colorado Avalanche asserted their dominance in a 6-0 shutout victory over the San Jose Sharks.
The Avalanche struck first early in the opening period via Ross Colton to get this one going. Colorado then extended its lead to two on a power play goal by none other than Nathan MacKinnon in the final minute of the first period. Early in the second period, the Avalanche officially blew this game open, scoring three goals via Sam Malinski, Josh Manson, and Joel Kiviranta to make it 5-0. After the fourth Avs goal was scored by Manson, Yaroslav Askarov was removed from the Sharks net in favor of Alex Nedeljkovic. Askarov’s night ended with 15 saves on 19 shots against, which was undoubtedly his worst performance of the month but not entirely his fault. Lastly, late in the third period, the Avalanche added one more goal via Artturi Lehkonen to put up a six-spot in their one-sided win.
Alex Nedeljkovic recorded 21 saves on 23 shots in relief for Yaroslav Askarov.
Overall, the Avalanche are on an absolute tear and in a league of their own, having won their last ten games and only recorded one regulation loss so far this season. They are far and away the top performing team in the NHL, and there was not much the Sharks, or many other teams for that matter, could do to slow this Avs team down. Next up, the Sharks return home to host the Vancouver Canucks on Black Friday at 1 pm PT.
