The San Jose Sharks have wrapped up their preseason schedule for this year, and while these games truly do not matter, they are a chance for players who are not guaranteed a roster spot in the NHL to prove themselves and earn one to begin the regular season. Like last preseason, since these games are not super meaningful, each Sharks preseason game will be briefly recapped in one post instead of separately and fully in depth. Without further ado, let's begin:
Game 1 (9/21/25): Sharks shut out the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0. Tyler Toffoli registered a goal and an assist, John Klingberg and Jeff Skinner each scored a goal, Sam Dickinson recorded two assists, and Will Smith and Quentin Musty each added an assist. In addition, Alex Nedeljkovic stopped all 24 shots he faced.
Game 2 (9/26/25): Golden Knights defeat the Sharks 2-1. Dmitry Orlov scored the lone goal for the Sharks in this contest, with assists from Alex Wennberg and Ethan Cardwell. Vegas scored twice via Cole Schwindt and Lukas Cormier to take the second consecutive preseason game between these two rivals. Yaroslav Askarov registered 27 saves on 29 shots against.
Game 3 (9/29/25): Anaheim Ducks defeat the Sharks 3-2. The Ducks scored three consecutive goals in the second period via Cutter Gauthier, Radko Gudas, and Frank Vatrano, while the Sharks responded with goals from Pavol Regenda in the middle frame and Adam Gaudette in the third period. Shakir Mukhamadullin, Oliver Wahlstrom, and Shane Bowers each recorded assists as well. Jakub Skarek made his first appearance in a Sharks uniform, registering 13 saves on 16 shots against, while Gabriel Carriere stopped all 14 shots he faced.
Game 4 (10/1/25): Ducks defeat the Sharks 5-2 in San Jose's last preseason game of the year at home. The Ducks scored three times in the second period via Beckett Sennecke, Sam Colangelo, and Cutter Gauthier. The Sharks scored twice early in the third period via William Eklund and Jeff Skinner, while Tyler Toffoli, Will Smith, and Phillipp Kurashev each generated assists. Anaheim added two empty-netters via Yegor Sidorov and Frank Vatrano in the last minute and a half to put this one away. Yaroslav Askarov recorded 20 saves on 23 shots against.
Game 5 (10/3/25): Sharks defeat the Golden Knights 4-1. Ethan Cardwell scores a hat trick and an assist, Egor Afanasyev scored a goal, Pavol Regenda registered three assists, and Zack Ostapchuk added an assist. On the other hand, Alexander Holtz scored Vegas' lone goal of the game. Alex Nedeljkovic was outstanding in net for Team Teal, recording 28 saves on 29 shots against.
Game 6 (10/4/25): Utah Mammoth defeat the Sharks 6-4 in their final preseason game of the year. Adam Gaudette scored the first goal of the contest early in the first period, but the Mammoth responded with four unanswered goals later in the opening period via Mikhail Sergachev, Dylan Guenther, Andrew Agozzino, and Kailer Yamamoto. The Sharks came back by scoring three consecutive goals in the second period via Tyler Toffoli, Barclay Goodrow, and Will Smith, only for Utah to finish this one off in the third period on goals from Clayton Keller and Brandon Tanev. In addition, this was the only preseason game this year that Macklin Celebrini appeared in for Team Teal. Yaroslav Askarov recorded 18 saves on 24 shots against.
Furthermore, the Sharks debuted a new center ice design for this upcoming season, which consists of the Sharks' primary logo surrounded by 35 gills inside a teal circle for 35 years of Sharks hockey, and it looks fantastic. They also plan to retire "Get Ready for This" by 2 Unlimited as their goal song and adopt a new one starting next season, which will likely be a royalty-free-sounding song based on the options that I have heard were presented to Sharks365 members.
While final roster cuts have yet to be made at this time, I definitely think that out of all the players not guaranteed a roster spot heading into training camp, Ethan Cardwell has made the biggest case for himself to crack the Sharks roster ahead of Thursday's regular-season opener. I would not be surprised if Alex Nedeljkovic is named the Sharks' starting goalie to begin the regular season, and it will be interesting to find out who gets sent through the waiver wire, sent down, or potentially traded before Thursday. While the Sharks did not have a particularly amazing preseason, I believe that the team will step up its overall performance and compete level during the regular season. More meaningful hockey will be officially back this week, and I am absolutely looking forward to it. Stay tuned for my annual NHL regular season standings predictions coming in the next few days.
