Sharks 2025-26 Game 3 Recap: Hurricanes 5, Sharks 1 (10/14/25)

It was all Hurricanes after the first five minutes of the second period, as they took complete command of this game and handed the Sharks their first regulation loss of the season by a score of 5-1.

The first period was scoreless, but Team Teal was able to generate a decent amount of scoring chances and draw a few penalties. The Hurricanes struck first early in the second period via Sean Walker to grab a 1-0 lead, while the Sharks responded about three minutes later on William Eklund’s first goal of the season, assisted by Tyler Toffoli and Nick Leddy. Later in the middle frame, William Carrier poked one in the net after Alex Nedeljkovic made the initial save and a few other Sharks defenders could not properly prevent and stop Carrier from crashing the crease to put Carolina back ahead 2-1. With under a minute and a half remaining in the second period, Eric Robinson scored on his backhand to extend the Hurricanes’ lead to two.

Carolina picked up where they left off early in the third period, going up 5-1 on goals from Shayne Gostisbehere and Jackson Blake

Alex Nedeljkovic made his return to the crease for the Sharks against the team that drafted him, recording 38 saves on 43 shots against. In addition, Michael Misa made his NHL debut tonight against the Hurricanes, while Collin Graf, Vincent Desharnais, and Shakir Mukhamadullin served as healthy scratches for the Sharks.

Simply put, the Carolina Hurricanes’ brand of hockey was too much for this Sharks team to handle tonight, and the Sharks had their fair share of missed opportunities, but it was great to see William Eklund score his first goal of the season and Michael Misa make his NHL debut. Next up, the Sharks play their first road game of the new season on Friday in Salt Lake City against the Utah Mammoth at 6 pm PT, which will be televised exclusively on ESPN+.
