The Sharks take the first NHL meeting between Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard and the season series over the Chicago Blackhawks by a score of 4-2.
The Sharks got off to an excellent start to this one, scoring twice in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead. Will Smith opened the scoring with his 13th goal of the season to extend his current point streak to five games, assisted by Macklin Celebrini and William Eklund. About seven minutes later, Collin Graf scored his third NHL goal, assisted by Alexander Wennberg and Mario Ferraro.
Ten seconds into the second period, Frank Nazar scored to put the Blackhawks on the board. About ten minutes later, Collin Graf scored his second goal of the game and 4th NHL goal, assisted by Will Smith and Shakir Mukhamadullin, to make it 3-1. Moments after, Barclay Goodrow and Jason Dickinson fought right after the faceoff in response to Dickinson cross-checking Macklin Celebrini. Shortly after this fight, the Blackhawks made it a one-goal game once again, this time via Ilya Mikheyev. Lastly, with just over 30 seconds remaining in the third period, Tyler Toffoli shot one into the empty net for his team-leading 25th goal of the season to restore the Sharks’ two-goal lead.
Alexandar Georgiev had a much better start than his past few, registering 24 saves on 26 shots against. In addition, Noah Gregor made his Sharks second stint debut, replacing Carl Grundstrom in the lineup.
Team Teal set the tone pretty early in this game and never looked back, highlighted by Collin Graf’s first two-goal performance of his NHL career and Will Smith extending his point streak to five games for the second time this season, becoming the second Sharks rookie to accomplish this feat. Will Smith is really coming into his own in the NHL as of late, and it should only be up from here for him as he continues to morph into a star for the Sharks and in the NHL. The Sharks’ current eight-game homestand continues on Saturday afternoon, when they host Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals at 2 pm PT. Like last Saturday’s game against the Islanders, the next post on this site will be a personal experience post, as I will be attending my third Sharks game this season and second game in two weeks this Saturday. Stay tuned.
