Another close one-goal game for Team Teal as the Nashville Predators hold on to win 3-2 and sweep the season series between these two clubs.
The first period was scoreless, but it featured two fights: the first one was between Barclay Goodrow and Andreas Englund, while the second one pitted Vincent Desharnais against Cole Smith. The Predators struck first in the second period on two power play goals from Filip Forsberg and Steven Stamkos to go up 2-0. Also in the second period, Tyler Toffoli had an excellent opportunity to get the Sharks on the board on a power play breakaway but got robbed twice by Juuse Saros.
Early in the third period, the Sharks twice in 14 seconds to tie the game at two. The first Sharks goal was scored by Patrick Giles for his first NHL goal and point, assisted by Barclay Goodrow and Carl Grundstrom, while the second of these two was quickly scored by Collin Graf for his second NHL goal on the feed by Will Smith. Moments later, a miscue by Alex Georgiev and Mario Ferraro led to Kiefer Bellows scoring to retake the lead for Nashville.
Alexandar Georgiev was okay in his fifth consecutive start, recording 16 saves on 19 shots against. In addition, Henry Thrun is out again after re-aggravating an injury he was recently previously dealing with, with Jimmy Schuldt recently being called back up from the Barracuda.
It was great to see the Sharks score twice early in the third period in a span of 14 seconds, including Patrick Giles’ first NHL goal, but another critical mistake soon after tying the game led to the Sharks losing another close one. Next up, the Sharks host the Chicago Blackhawks in the first game between Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard in the NHL on Thursday at 7:30 pm PT.
