Sharks 2024-25 Game 45 Recap: Wild 3, Sharks 1 (1/11/25)

The Sharks offense has come up dry once again as they fall 3-1 to the Minnesota Wild for their third consecutive defeat.

The Wild struck first early in the opening period on a goal from Marco Rossi to get this one going. They then extended their lead to two via Matt Boldy early in the second period. Later in the middle frame, William Eklund put one in on the backhand off the rebound from a shot by Macklin Celebrini for his ninth goal of the season. Jake Walman registered the secondary assist on Eklund’s ninth goal of the season in his return to the Sharks lineup from IR. Minnesota added one more goal late in the third period via Mats Zuccarello to finish this one off.

Yaroslav Askarov had another great start in net for Team Teal and kept the Sharks in this contest, stopping 19 of 22 shots against. In addition, Jake Walman, Carl Grundstrom, and Nico Sturm have all returned to the Sharks lineup tonight, while Klim Kostin and Nikolai Kovalenko have both been placed on IR.

Overall, the Sharks had an improved effort against the Wild compared to their previous game last night in Utah, and many scoring chances were generated, but they weren’t able to get most of those opportunities past Marc-Andre Fleury. San Jose hits the road to the eastern half of the country for its next five games, starting in Detroit against the Red Wings on Tuesday at 4 pm PT.
