Sharks Sign Filip Zadina

The newest addition to the Sharks is forward Filip Zadina, who was signed to a one-year contract worth $1.1 million.

This comes not long after the Detroit Red Wings placed Zadina on waivers and released him this offseason. He appeared in 30 games with the Red Wings in 2022-23, scoring three goals and four assists for seven points. Zadina also recorded one goal in two AHL games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Selected sixth overall by Detroit in the 2018 NHL Draft, Filip Zadina has registered 28 goals and 40 assists for 68 points in 190 NHL games, all with the Red Wings. His best season thus far came in 2021-22 after he set career highs in multiple offensive categories, recording 10 goals, 14 assists, 24 points, and 156 shots in 74 games and ranking sixth among Red Wings forwards in assists. In addition, Zadina has 26 goals and 26 assists for 52 points in 82 career AHL games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Overall, this is a great low-risk, prove-it deal with the potential for high reward. After hearing that the Red Wings were letting Filip Zadina go this offseason after he struggled to find consistency with them, I knew all along that the Sharks would be a great fit for him this coming season, and I'm glad GM Mike Grier capitalized on this opportunity to add more young scoring depth to this Sharks roster that could use more of it. My face lit up after first hearing about this signing, and I have a pretty good feeling that things will work out well for Filip Zadina in teal.
