Sharks 2021-22 Game 29 Recap: Kraken 3, Sharks 1 (12/14/21)

The Sharks lose their first-ever match-up with the Seattle Kraken 3-1.

The game was scoreless for the first two periods, and it was much closer than what the score indicated. The first period had 14 minutes of non-stop action without any whistles. As for the second period, the Sharks had some great scoring chances but couldn't get one past Chris Driedger. In fact, defenseman Adam Larsson made an incredible save on one shot during the second period.

The scoring began early in the third, with the first goal scored by former Shark Ryan Donato. Roughly eight minutes later, the Kraken followed the first one up with another one, this time by Brandon Tanev. With about two minutes remaining, Logan Couture put it in the wide open net to avoid getting shut out, getting assists from Brent Burns and Tomas Hertl. San Jose had a comeback effort in them late in the third, but it was thwarted after Calle Jarnkrok buries it in the empty net with seconds remaining.

James Reimer was given the start in net, recording 27 saves on 29 shots against. He had a decent performance, but a lack of offense couldn't bail him out.

In other news, Joel Kellman was recently placed on waivers for the purpose of contract buyout. He has mainly been stuck with the Barracuda but hasn't developed in the way the Sharks had hoped he would.

Overall, I liked what I saw in the first two periods of this game but wasn't happy with the final result. This is especially considering that the Sharks faced an expansion team who has been mediocre in its first season so far. Team Teal is looking to turn things around when they face the Vancouver Canucks in its next game on Thursday at 7:30 pm PT. This will be no easy task as the Canucks have won their last five games under new head coach Bruce Boudreau.
