The Sharks continue to struggle to generate much offense, finishing their current four-game homestand with a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames.
The Flames struck first via Adam Klapka late in the first period, which was generated by an awful Sharks turnover on a cross-ice pass from Nolan Allan. During the middle of the third period, William Stromgren scored to extend the Flames’ lead to two. A few minutes later, the Sharks finally get on the board and back in this game on Sam Dickinson’s first goal of the season, assisted by Jacob Trouba and Kiefer Sherwood.
Yaroslav Askarov performed well in net but could not get bailed out by his offense once more, recording 20 saves on 22 shots against. In addition, Adam Gaudette was back on the fourth line in place of Ty Dellandrea, and Tyler Toffoli got moved up to the top line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith tonight, among other line changes.
Team Teal’s offense remains snakebitten, and they have now dropped four of their last five games. This largely due to Ryan Warsofsky not receiving enough buy-in from his players at this time and the Sharks being without two key forwards in Alexander Wennberg and Igor Chernyshov due to injuries. It also does not help that Flames goalie Dustin Wolf tends to play his best hockey against his hometown team. On a more positive note, at least Sam Dickinson scored his first goal of the season, and Yaroslav Askarov retains the upper hand over Alex Nedeljkovic in terms of goaltending. San Jose hits the road for its next three games, starting on Wednesday in LA against the Kings at 7 pm PT.
