The Sharks come back from down 2-0 and defeat the Dallas Stars 5-4 in overtime for their third straight win and one of their most impressive victories of the season so far.
Early in the first period, the Stars got this one going after a costly turnover by Vincent Iorio led to a breakaway goal by Justin Hryckowian to get Dallas on the board first. With about a minute left in the first period, the Stars extended their lead to two on a goal from Jason Robertson. The Sharks got on the board early in the second period on a power play goal by Alex Wennberg for his ninth goal of the season, assisted by Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli. Celebrini's point streak is now at 13 games with this primary assist. Team Teal tied the game at two late in the middle frame on a power play goal by Jeff Skinner for his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Igor Chernyshov and Adam Gaudette. With just under a minute left in the second period, Kyle Capobianco scored to regain the lead for the Stars.
Dallas picked up where they left off early in the third period, scoring via Mikko Rantanen to make it 4-2. Soon after, the Sharks got back within one on their third power play marker of the day, which was Tyler Toffoli's 12th goal of the season, assisted by Macklin Celebrini and Dmitry Orlov. Later in the third period, the Sharks got this contest even once more when Adam Gaudette redirected a pass from Sam Dickinson for his tenth goal of the season, with Collin Graf picking up the secondary assist on this equalizer. On to overtime, where the Sharks find a way once again and complete the comeback on a slapshot by Tyler Toffoli for the game-winner, his second goal of the game, and 13th goal of the season, assisted by William Eklund and Macklin Celebrini.
Alex Nedeljkovic received the start this afternoon against the Stars, recording 16 saves on 20 shots against. In addition, Michael Misa has been informed that he will be staying with the Sharks for the rest of the season, while Patrick Giles was sent back down to the Barracuda. Will Smith recently returned to practice and is skating again as well.
This was an absolutely amazing comeback win for the Sharks, as they were trailing for most of this game against the number two performing team in the league but never out. The Sharks power play unit came alive, and like in many Sharks wins this season, Macklin Celebrini put together three points to lead the charge. In fact, Macklin Celebrini has more three-point games than zero-point games this season and brought his point total to 70 on the campaign, which is certainly out of this world. As of the completion of this afternoon matinee, the Sharks have 23 wins this season, the most in the Pacific Division, and occupy third place in the Pacific. If this Sharks team can get to overtime, they are almost guaranteed to come out on top no matter who they face, and fans cannot be more satisfied with how this team is rolling right now. San Jose will look to extend their win streak to four when they host the Vegas Golden Knights for one last time this regular season tomorrow night at 5 pm PT.
