Sharks 2025-26 Game 35 Recap: Stars 5, Sharks 3 (12/18/25)

The Sharks made things close and competitive, but were unable to figure out and overpower the Dallas Stars in a 5-3 loss to snap their three-game win streak.

The Stars struck first later in the opening period on a goal from Roope Hintz. A few minutes after, the Sharks had tied the game at one on a deflection by Zack Ostapchuk; however, it was reviewed by the NHL situation room for a high touch by Ostapchuk, and the goal was overturned. Dallas then extended its lead to two via Wyatt Johnston with a few minutes remaining in the opening period.

The Sharks officially got on the board early in the second period on Shakir Mukhamadullin’s second goal of the season, assisted by Ty Dellandrea. Later in the middle frame, the Stars regained their two-goal advantage on Wyatt Johnston’s second goal of the game. With around three minutes left in the period, Macklin Celebrini worked his magic by winning the faceoff and setting up Collin Graf to score his seventh goal of the season. The Stars responded during the final minute of middle frame when a misplay by Alex Nedeljkovic allowed Justin Hryckowian to score to make it 4-2 Dallas.

Early in the third period, Collin Graf scored his second goal of the game and eighth goal of the season to get back within one, assisted by Igor Chernyshov and Macklin Celebrini. With just over a minute left in regulation, the Stars put the Sharks’ comeback efforts to bed with an empty-net goal by Jamie Benn.

Alex Nedeljkovic was back in the crease for the Sharks, recording 25 saves on 29 shots against. The only other lineup changes tonight from the other night are that Adam Gaudette was back in the lineup, and Jeff Skinner was a scratch.

While a bad turnover by Nedeljkovic set up Justin Hryckowian to score and cost the Sharks this game, Team Teal deserves credit for staying resilient and doing whatever they can to keep up with one of the top-performing teams in the league. Macklin Celebrini and Collin Graf were certainly the Sharks’ two best players on the ice tonight, recording two points each. San Jose closes out its last homestand before the holiday break on Saturday against the Kraken at 7 pm PT. This next Sharks game will be my fifth game at the Shark Tank this season, so be on the lookout for my personal experience post from there very soon.
