Sharks Sign Sam Dickinson to ELC + Re-Sign Ty Emberson

The Sharks announced the signings of two defensemen this week.

First, the Sharks announced yesterday that they signed defenseman and 2024 11th overall pick Sam Dickinson to a standard, entry-level contract. He is seen as the Sharks' top blue line prospect and has the opportunity to make his NHL debut as soon as next season. Dickinson previously played with the London Knights of the OHL last season, recording 18 goals and 52 assists for 70 points in 68 games along with two goals and two assists for four points in four Memorial Cup games.

The most recent transaction announced by the Sharks as of this morning is the re-signing of defenseman Ty Emberson to a one-year deal worth $950k, avoiding arbitration. A solid depth blue-liner, Emberson appeared in 30 games during the 2023-24 season, registering one goal and nine assists for ten points, including a three-game assist streak in early January. In addition, he made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL point on two separate occasions in late October on top of scoring his first NHL goal in late November. However, Emberson's 2023-24 season was unfortunately cut short due to a lower-body injury suffered in late February.

Overall, it's great and necessary for the Sharks to get these two young defensemen under contract through at least next season. Hope Sam Dickinson lives up to the hype, which I'm pretty sure he will, and Ty Emberson bounces back, improves his game, and has a better season than last.
