Sharks 2021-22 Game 53 Recap: Sharks 3, Kraken 1 (2/27/22)

The Sharks record their first-ever win over the Seattle Kraken in a 3-1 victory Sunday night.

More firsts were accomplished for the Sharks in this game as well. Late in the first period, Ryan Dzingel scored his first goal as a Shark to put San Jose on the board first, only for Morgan Geekie of the Kraken to tie it up nine seconds later on the following drive. During the second period, Scott Reedy scored his first NHL goal to regain the lead for the Sharks, while Jonah Gadjovich scored his first NHL goal late in the third to top this one off.

Jasper Weatherby collected two assists, while Logan Couture, Noah Gregor, and Brent Burns each collected an assist in the win over the Kraken Sunday night. In addition, both Jake Middleton and Jeremy Lauzon dropped the gloves and fought early in the second period. The Kraken almost scored a second goal in the middle frame via Calle Jarnkrok but it was overturned due to clear evidence of goaltender interference on that play.

James Reimer was excellent in his 12th consecutive start, making 39 saves. However, he could still benefit from resting one of the next games so either Zach Sawchenko could get some playing time in net or Adin Hill returns from injury to balance the workload in net.

As for other lineup changes, Jonathan Dahlen didn't play in this game due to a non-COVID illness. Mario Ferraro underwent surgery earlier on Sunday to repair a fractured left fibula and will be out 6-8 weeks, while Erik Karlsson could be back with the Sharks within the next couple of weeks.

I'm pumped and relieved that the Sharks finally won their first game against the Kraken and ended February on a high note. It would've been quite troublesome if the the Kraken had ended their current skid last night instead. San Jose could really get a hot streak going in their next stretch of games in the month of March, starting with a brief road trip to Vegas to face the Golden Knights on Tuesday at 7 pm PT.
