The 2021 NHL Draft Lottery has officially been determined, and there weren't a lot of surprises in the draft order of the first 15 picks of this year's entry draft.
As for the Sharks, they will be drafting seventh overall in 2021, the first time in franchise history they will be doing so. This will also be the Sharks' highest draft pick since they selected Milan Michalek sixth overall in 2003. Before the draft lottery this afternoon, the Sharks had the seventh-best odds of winning the draft lottery at 6.7 percent.
I expected San Jose to retain the seventh spot in the draft order this year, and thankfully they didn't fall any further down the list. In addition, I am pretty satisfied with the Sharks selecting seventh overall this year, as there will be an abundance of promising prospects still available when it's their turn to make their first selection in the draft. I'm not sure who the Sharks plan to select with the seventh overall pick, but we will wait and see come July 23, the first day of the NHL entry draft. I am certainly looking forward to it.
As for the rest of the draft lottery results, here they are:
1) Buffalo Sabres
2) Seattle Kraken
3) Anaheim Ducks
4) New Jersey Devils
5) Columbus Blue Jackets
6) Detroit Red Wings
7) San Jose Sharks
8) Los Angeles Kings
9) Vancouver Canucks
10) Ottawa Senators
11) Chicago Blackhawks
12) Calgary Flames
13) Philadelphia Flyers
14) Dallas Stars
15) New York Rangers
