A three-goal second period propelled the Sharks to a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals to begin this four-game road trip.
The Sharks begin this road trip with two amazing saves by Alex Nedeljkovic on Anthony Beauvillier in the first minute of play. Besides these incredible saves, the first period remained scoreless, but the Sharks were able to catch up to and surpass the Capitals in the shot count in the later half of the period.
The Capitals struck first on a backhander by Dylan Strome with about nine minutes left in the second period. The Sharks responded a few minutes later with three unanswered goals to take their first lead of the night. The first Sharks goal was Zack Ostapchuk’s third goal of the season, assisted by Dmitry Orlov and William Eklund, followed by Collin Graf’s 13th goal of the season from Pavol Regenda, and Regenda’s seventh goal of the season from Macklin Celebrini and Collin Graf.
Washington got back into this contest near the midway point of the third period via Ryan Leonard to make it a one-goal game. Fortunately for the Sharks, they were able to stave off a final push by the Caps in the dying minutes of this game to earn the close and huge win in the nation’s capital.
Alex Nedeljkovic had arguably his best performance of the season in his 200th NHL game, recording 21 saves on 23 shots against. He added a few more incredible stops and made a shot towards the Caps’ empty net in the third period on top of the great saves he made to begin this game. In addition, Ty Dellandrea has been placed on injured reserve, while Will Smith is expected to return to action tomorrow in Detroit against the Red Wings.
The Sharks’ current four-game road trip is off to a fantastic start, as they got a massive victory over the Washington Capitals. This was fueled by a big second period in which they scored three consecutive goals to take the lead and maintain control for the remainder of this contest. The one point Macklin Celebrini recorded in this game on the third Sharks goal by Pavol Regenda was an impressive between-the-legs assist from behind the net. Besides Celebrini doing Celebrini things and Nedeljkovic in net, Collin Graf and Pavol Regenda had great performances against Washington as well. Team Teal’s next game in Detroit against the Red Wings is set for tomorrow at 4 pm PT.
