Sharks 2024-35 Game 30 Recap: Panthers 3, Sharks 1 (12/7/24)

The Sharks offense did not have much to show for in South Florida, as they fall 3-1 to the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers struck first just 23 seconds in after Matthew Tkachuk batted one in for his ninth goal of the season. Florida then extended its lead to three in the second period on goals from Matthew Tkachuk (second of the game, tenth of the season) and Aleksander Barkov. However, with just under one-and-a-half minutes remaining in regulation, Tyler Toffoli scored his 11th goal of the season to prevent the Sharks from getting shut out, with assists from Mikael Granlund and Jake Walman.

Mackenzie Blackwood singlehandedly kept the Sharks in this game against the Cats, recording 49 saves on 52 shots against. Blackwood's best save came in the second period, when he made a sprawling glove stop performing the splits to rob Aaron Ekblad of a goal. In addition, Will Smith is currently out of the Sharks lineup and day-to-day with an upper-body injury, with Ethan Cardwell taking his place for the time being. As for the blue line, Henry Thrun replaced Jack Thompson in today's game in South Florida.

Another disappointing effort by the Sharks, but at least they kept things under control with solid goaltending from Mackenzie Blackwood against the defending Stanley Cup Champs. Next up, the Sharks travel to Raleigh to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday at 4 pm PT.
