Sharks 2024-25 Game 8 Recap: Kings 3, Sharks 2 (10/24/24)

The Sharks performed well in the second and third periods, but another disastrous first period leads to their eighth straight defeat to start their 2024-35 campaign, a 3-2 loss to the LA Kings.

The Kings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, with Jordan Spence scoring first and Warren Foegele scoring the next two to cap off a dominant opening period by LA. The first period also featured a fight breaking out between Luke Kunin and Andre Lee to try to get things going for Team Teal.

San Jose stopped the bleeding in the second period and got a goal back, as Mikael Granlund picked the corner to score his second goal of the season to get the Sharks on the board. Jack Thompson and Alex Wennberg were credited with the assists on the Granlund goal, which occurred on a Sharks power play. Late in the third period, Mikael Granlund scored another power play goal for his second of the game to cut the Sharks’ deficit to one, with both Thompson and Wennberg each collecting their second assists of the game. Although they couldn’t get the victory, it was great to see this Sharks squad not give up after their terrible first period and improve their game during the last 40 minutes of this contest.

Mackenzie Blackwood finished his night with 27 saves on 30 shots against.

Not only did Mikael Granlund have his best performance of the season so far, this was huge for my fantasy team, and he has been a consistently great and productive forward for the Sharks this year. This Sharks team continues to remain more competitive than what their record indicates this season, and their first win of 2024-25 should be around the corner very soon. Team Teal travels to Vegas for their next game on Saturday against the Golden Knights at 7 pm PT.
