Sharks 2023-24 Game 69 Recap: Lightning 4, Sharks 1 (3/21/24)

The Sharks extend their losing streak to six, as they drop their last game this season against an Eastern Conference opponent 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Lightning scored first on two unlucky deflections that first went off the referee and then off the back of Mackenzie Blackwood into the back of the net, with the goal being credited to Nick Paul. The Sharks evened things up at one later in the first period on William Eklund’s 11th goal of the season, with the lone assist going to Jacob McDonald. Great response from Eklund after being demoted to the fourth line tonight.

The wheels fell off for Team Teal in the final frame as the Lightning scored three unanswered goals: two from Brayden Point and one from Anthony Duclair in his return to San Jose since he was acquired by the Bolts ahead of the trade deadline. Nikita Kucherov assisted on each of the four goals scored by Tampa tonight in San Jose, continuing his efforts to remain one of the top scorers in the NHL this season.

Mackenzie Blackwood made his return to the Sharks net since being activated from the IR earlier today, recording 17 saves on 21 shots against. In a corresponding move, the Sharks reassigned Magnus Chrona to the Barracuda.

Next up, the Sharks host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday in Connor Bedard’s first game in San Jose and the second rendition of the Tank-4-Celebrini Cup this week. This next post will be a special personal experience post, as my buddy and I will be traveling to San Jose to attend this next game, and we can’t wait to witness it live.
