Sharks Claim Ryan Dzingel off Waivers

The Sharks made a few roster moves this morning ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Ducks in Anaheim, in which I will be attending.

Most importantly, San Jose claimed forward Ryan Dzingel off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Team Teal needed additional scoring depth badly, and this is a step in the right direction. Dzingel was involved in a trade that took place two days ago that sent him and forward Ilya Lyubushkin from the Arizona Coyotes to the Maple Leafs for forward Nick Ritchie and a 2025 second-round pick. He should be available for tomorrow’s game in Anaheim and will more than likely be placed on either the third or fourth lines.

Ryan Dzingel has seven points in 26 games with the Coyotes this season and has a $1.1 million AAV for the remainder of this season. Over the course of his NHL career, Dzingel has recorded a total of 86 goals and 101 assists for 187 points in 398 games with the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Carolina Hurricanes, and Arizona Coyotes, including a few 20-goal seasons under his belt. He will reunite with former teammates Erik Karlsson in Ottawa and James Reimer in Carolina.

In addition to the Dzingel waiver claim, the Sharks have placed goalie Adin Hill on the injured reserve and forward Lane Pederson on waivers. If Pederson clears waivers, he will be sent down to the Barracuda in the AHL.

I believe Ryan Dzingel can help ease the Sharks’ scoring woes, but Team Teal needs to do more if they want to get back into playoff contention this season.
